Panchalankurichi is a tiny historical village 37 km away from NEC. In the 17th century AD, the Great fighter Kattabomman, also known as “Veerapandiya Kattabomman,” fought the British. The Memorial Fort was built in 1974 by the Tamil Nadu Government. The Memorial Hall features excellent murals depicting the great actions of the saga that offer a fair picture of the period’s history. The Sri Devi Jakkammal Temple, dedicated to Kattabomman’s hereditary Goddess, is located within the fort complex. Near the fort, there is also a cemetery for British soldiers. The Department of Archaeology protects the remnants of the historic fort.
